Mediaproducts BV became its own company, originating from the Media Preparation Department of the Laboratory for Infectious Diseases.

  • Before 2001, the Media Preparation Department produced only internally for the Laboratory for Infectious Diseases. At that time, the Laboratory for Infectious Diseases was still called the Regional Public Health Laboratory for the provinces Groningen and Drenthe.
  • Since 2001, media are increasingly being produced for laboratories outside Groningen and Drenthe.
    The cardinal question was always: “Can you make what we want, in the manner we have come to expect from our own media preparation unit?”
    The reply to that is invariably: “Externally, your Media Preparation Room!”
    It is always our custom to produce for laboratories on the basis of the supplied formula. In addition, we give advice on all related matters; formula composition, storage life, order frequency, storage conditions, media qualities, etc.
  • In 2003 and 2004 we entered into agreements with Bio-Rad and bioMérieux. As a result, we now supply media to laboratories in the Benelux and Germany both directly and indirectly.
  • In 2005, the Laboratory for Infectious Diseases decided to transfer this successful commercial activity to a privatized company outside the non-profit organisation: Mediaproducts BV. The shares are in the hands of the Board of Directors of the Laboratory for Infectious Diseases.
  • Thus, on January 1, 2006, a subsidiary company came about which offers its products and services to all microbiological laboratories. These laboratories are usually faced with the choice of either investing in their own Media Preparation Department or outsourcing.
